What is simbang gabi? Can the Catholic faithful fulfill this simbang gabi devotion by attending Mass at daytime? Can we start our simbang gabi on the evening of the 15th of December and end on the 23rd? What is anticipated simbang gabi? How do we observe simbang gabi on Sundays? What do we mean that funeral Masses cannot be held on the Sundays of advent? Can we have weddings on the Sundays of advent? What hymns and songs are appropriate for the Masses during the simbang gabi? What is Parol na Panamasabi? How can we improve this Filipino tradition of simbang gabi?

LOVE IS SACRIFICE Homily Guide in the Archdiocese of Lingayen Dagupan for September 3, 2023 towards a massive campaign for Eucharistic renewal The word for today is SACRIFICE. The Gospel command of the Lord this Sunday echoes, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. Saint Paul admonishes us in his letter to the Romans, “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship”.
The allegation that the image of San Jacinto de Polonia in the Parish of San Jacinto of this archdiocese has been switched with another image of later provenance was brought to our attention and necessitated the constitution of an ad hoc team of ecclesiastics tasked by the undersigned to reach at least at a moral certitude with regard to the alleged missing image. The team was composed of Bishop Fidelis Layog, Father Rafael Cruz and Father Melquiades Serraon.
The Second Synod of Lingayen Dagupan of 2018 mandated the establishment of an Institute for Faith Formation to provide continuous and integral and holistic formation to the ministers of the different apostolates and ministries. (Article 53). In the section on Faith Formation, we also embraced the vision of having trained and formed, morally upright, committed, competent and effective formation ministers in all parishes and barangays. (Article 55). The implementation of this mandate was stalled by the pandemic restrictions. The time has arrived for us to plunge into the deeper waters of faith formation.

We come again together to celebrate the beauty and mystery of our priesthood. Our priesthood is a grace beyond measure; a grace that surpasses worthiness; a grace that can only be understood in heaven. Nothing and nobody on earth can explain in adequate terms what the priesthood is. It is a gift in mystery.

(Ez 3, 18)
