PRAYER GUIDE
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Pilgrim’s Prayer through Mary Help of Christians
We begin our prayer experience with Mary, the Blessed Mother who guides us always in route to Her Son Jesus. This ancient pilgrim prayer has been used by pilgrims for decades to invite Mary, our Mother, with us in pilgrimage.
All:
O Virgin Mary, Help of Christians, we dedicate ourselves to your service.
We concentrate our minds, hearts, and bodies and promise to work always
for the glory of God and the salvation of man.
Protect the young and help the aged, save sinners and console the dying.
You are our hope, Mary, Mother of Mercy and Gate of Heaven.
Pray to your Son for us so that we may be filled with selfless charity and deep faith.
Ask Jesus for those things which we cannot obtain through our own actions
and help us in this our present necessity.
May we always see the Will of the Father of our lives.
We ask you this, sweet Spouse of the Spirit,
so that we may come to your Son in grace. Amen
(Recite the "Our Father," "Hail Mary" and Glory be for the safe start of your pilgrimage.)
Departure (Do meditation while traveling to your next pilgrim church, you may also pray the Holy Rosary)
*Enter to the Pilgrim Door
ADORATION
(For each invocation the response is: *To you be praise and glory forever)
Body of Christ conceived of the Blessed Virgin Mary*
Body of Christ, sacrificed on the cross*
Body of Christ, risen from the tomb*
Blood of Christ, price of our ransom*
Blood of Christ, the seal of new alliance*
Blood of Christ, drink of eternal life*
Heart of Christ, pierced through with the lance*
Heart of Christ, rich in mercy*
Heart of Christ, source of love*
(For each invocation the response is: *Give us your salvation)
Living Bread come down from heaven*
Living Word of the Father*
Giver of the Holy Spirit*
Bridegroom of Holy Church*
Redeemer of the world*
Friend of the young and the poor*
When You come on the last day*
Let us pray:
Lord Jesus Christ,
You gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of your suffering and death.
May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood
help us to experience the salvation you won for us
and the peace of the kingdom where you live
with the Father and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen
PRAYERS FOR THE HOLY FATHER
Let us pray for our Holy Father, Pope Francis, that the Lord, who has chosen him, grant him life and health and preserve him to His holy Church. Father of Providence, look with love on Pope Francis, our Pope, your appointed successor to Saint Peter on whom you built your Church. May he be the visible center and foundation of our unity in faith and love. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
(Recite the "Apostles' Creed," "Our Father" and "Hail Mary" for the intentions of the
Holy Father)
Prayer to the Patron Saint (You may include your personal intentions.)
PRAYER BEFORE THE CROSS
Behold, O gentle Jesus,
I cast myself upon my knees in your sight
and with the most fervent desire of my soul
I pray and beseech you to impress upon my heart
lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity;
with deep affection and grief of soul I ponder within myself
and mentally contemplate your five most precious wounds;
having before my eyes that which David spoke in prophecy:
"They have pierced my hands and my feet;
they have numbered all my bones"
(Psalm 22:17-18)
LITANY OF HUMILITY
O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me
(For each invocation the response is: *Deliver me Jesus )
From the desire of being esteemed,*
From the desire of being loved,*
From the desire of being extolled,*
From the desire of being honored,*
From the desire of being praised,*
From the desire of being preferred to others*
From the desire of being consulted,*
From the desire of being approved,*
From the fear of being humiliated,*
From the fear of being despised,*
From the fear of suffering rebukes,*
From the fear of being calumniated,*
From the fear of being forgotten,*
From the fear of being ridiculed,*
From the fear of being wronged,*
From the fear of being suspected,*
(For each invocation the response is: **Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it )
That others may be loved more than I,**
That others may be esteemed more than I,**
That in the opinion of the world, others may increase, and I may decrease,**
That others may be chosen and I set aside,**
That others may be praised and I unnoticed,**
That others may be preferred to me in everything,**
That others become holier than I provided that I may become as holy as I should,**
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Some helpful tips:
The Pilgrim Season is only until September 8, 2021. There is still time to complete it, but expect pilgrims will be many as the period comes to a close.
Plan your visits well. Check the schedules of each church.
Wear comfortable and decent clothing. Remember that this is not like going to the mall. Wear clothing that shows reverence for our Lord.
Follow the instructions carefully. Do not shortcut. Remember that our good Lord sees us in all our undertakings.
Make it more meaningful by offering each visit to an intention, for example, one church for the souls in Purgatory, another church for the good health of one’s family, etc.
*It is pastorally advisable to inform and teach the faithful about this special privilege during the jubilee year; such as the meaning of pilgrimage in Christian life; the importance of the sacraments of initiation and the meaning of being Church.
To go on pilgrimage really means to step out of ourselves in order to encounter God where he has revealed himself, where his grace has shone with particular splendor and produced rich fruits of conversion and holiness among those who believe. (Pope Benedict XVI).
And Saint John Paul II says to us: I say it to everyone: let us set out in the
footsteps of Christ!
