My dear Reverend Fathers:
In order to celebrate more fittingly the role of the laity in the mission of Church renewal and evangelization, we will observe the National Laity Week with an Archdiocesan Laity Congress on September 29, 2018, Saturday, from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Calasiao Civic Center beside the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul. It will be an occasion to rekindle the fire and vision of the Second Synod of Lingayen Dagupan celebrated last year and now under implementation guided by a comprehensive post synod pastoral plan.
The highlight of the Laity Congress will be a talk by Atty. FLORIN HILBAY, former Solicitor General, on some socio-political concerns that our laity must look into from the perspective of Catholic social teachings.
He is active in social media and his legal views are respected and valued as consonant with Gospel values.
All the catechists and social action ministers are obliged to attend the Laity Congress.
Likewise, we direct all the school directors of the ALDCS to send all our senior high school students to the Congress so that our youth can receive better formation in their mission of social transformation. We must resist the creeping culture of indifference.
Needless to say, the parish lay leaders who compose the Commissions of Evangelization and Worship must attend too. The goals of the Laity Congress are aligned with the vision of the Synod.
Let us avail of the opportunity before us to be informed, to be enlightened by the Gospel and to be ignited by the Spirit to restore all things in Christ.
Sincerely yours,
+SOCRATES B. VILLEGAS
Archbishop of Lingayen Dagupan
