Pilgrim Churches for the Jubilee Year 2021
In the Archdiocese of Lingayen Dagupan
My dear people of God:
In the spirit of the jubilee year celebrating the five hundredth anniversary of the first Mass and first baptism ever celebrated in our archipelago; in order to make more available the spiritual treasures of the Church during this unique time of grace; and in order to awaken a greater zeal to be a missionary Church, the Archdiocese of Lingayen Dagupan designates nine churches within our jurisdiction as PILGRIM CHURCHES assuring the faithful who visit ALL NINE churches the pastoral benediction of our Holy Mother Church.
The nine churches are:
1. Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist in Dagupan City, with a bond of special affinity with the Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls;
2. Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Manaoag, with a bond a special affinity with the Papal Basilica Saint Mary Major;
3. Epiphany of the Lord Co-Cathedral Church in Lingayen;
4. Saint Vincent Ferrer Church in Bayambang;
5. Saint Dominic Church in San Carlos City;
6. Saints Peter and Paul Church in Calasiao;
7. Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Mangaldan;
8. Saint Ildephonse Church in Malasiqui;
9. Our Lady of Purification Church in Binmaley.
MECHANICS:
1. A template PILGRIMS STAMPITA will be issued by the parishes designed and prepared by our local liturgical artist to be reproduced in print by individual parishes.
2. Each PILGRIM CHURCH will be given an official rubber seal stamp issued by the Chancery.
3. Pilgrims who visit the churches can have their PILGRIMS STAMPITA stamped at the back to certify that they have made the pilgrimage.
4. The last church to be visited must be the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, where after receiving the FINAL stamp seal, the pilgrim will receive a 2028 Centennial ALD pendant cross personally blessed by the Archbishop himself as a pledge of heavenly favors.
5. The PILGRIM SEASON starts on April 8 until September 8 this year 2021.
JUBILEE DOORS:
1. Each of the nine pilgrim churches must designate a jubilee PILGRIM DOOR duly ornamented with the official seal of jubilee year.
2. The Archbishop will open the jubilee PILGRIM DOORS in appropriate liturgical rites on the following dates:
April 4 at 9am at Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist in Dagupan City
April 4 at 4pm at Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Manaoag;
April 5 at 9am at Epiphany of the Lord Co-Cathedral Church in Lingayen;
April 5 at 4pm at Saint Vincent Ferrer Church in Bayambang;
April 6 at 9am at Saint Dominic Church in San Carlos City;
April 6 at 4pm at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Calasiao;
April 7 at 9am at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Mangaldan;
April 7 at 4pm Saint Ildephonse Church in Malasiqui;
April 8 at 9am Our Lady of Purification Church in Binmaley.
3. It is pastorally advisable to inform and teach the faithful about this special privilege during the jubilee year; such as the meaning of pilgrimage in Christian life; the importance of the sacraments of initiation and the meaning of being Church.
4. The parishes can organize pilgrimages within the various organizations, ministries and BECs in coordination with the priests of the PILGRIM CHURCHES giving particular attention to the reception of the Sacrament of Penance before the date of pilgrimage
and the celebration of the Eucharist in one of the pilgrim churches.
To go on pilgrimage really means to step out of ourselves in order to encounter God where he has revealed himself, where his grace has shone with particular splendor and produced rich fruits of conversion and holiness among those who believe. (Pope Benedict XVI).
And Saint John Paul II says to us: I say it to everyone: let us set out in the footsteps of Christ!
Sincerely yours,
+SOCRATES B. VILLEGAS
Archbishop of Lingayen Dagupan
