My Dear Sons,
God is calling you to be great. God is calling you to be a saint. God is calling you to follow Him. All of us are called by God indeed…called to be saints.
There is no life more beautiful than to serve God. There is no life more meaningful than to belong totally to God. There is no life more rewarding than the life in love with Love.
The call to be a priest is a grace not given to all. It is only given to a chosen few. It starts with a spark of light, a spark of desire, maybe even a spark of curiosity “What if I become a priest?” That is the beginning.
Has that spark ever come across your soul? Has that curiosity ever crossed your mind? Has that longing for a life different from what you have now ever struck your soul?
That is how it begins. Let that spark turn to flame. Let than flame warm your soul. Let that flame warm many more souls.
Listen to the longing of your heart. God is calling. Listen. Take courage. Dare. Say “Yes” and God will take care of the rest….
Be a priest.

The seminary, more than a place, a material space, should be a spiritual place, a way of life, an atmosphere that fosters and ensures a process of formation, so that the person who is called to the priesthood by God may become, with the sacrament of orders, a living image of Jesus Christ, head and shepherd of the Church (cf. PDV, no. 42.) The seminary therefore, especially in our Archdiocese with three seminaries all under the patronage of Mary Help of Christians, is a system of accompaniment from the initial stages of discernment to the final stages of configuration in Christ.
Taking a plant as an analogy, the Mary Help of Christians Minor Seminary in Binmaley is the seedbed where the seeds of vocation are first sown. The aim is to protect and develop the seeds of a priestly vocation so that the students may more easily recognize it and be in a better position to respond to it as they advance in their years information (cf. PDV, no. 63).
The Mary Help of Christians Major Seminary in Bonuan is the next step in the formation of future priests.

The seeds first sown in the minor seminary have now sprouted and in the college seminary, they are transferred to the garden. St. John Paul II describes the major seminary as a community established to offer to those called by the Lord the possibility of re-living the experience of formation which our Lord provided for the Apostles (cf. PDV, no. 60). In other words, the major seminary is like a garden where plants join other plants for the very purpose of living in an ecosystem where life with God is the center.

The Mary Help of Christians Theology Seminary found in San Fabian is the last stage in the initial formation of seminarians in the archdiocese. Here, the once small seeds that began their journey in the minor seminary, have now matured and have become trees that are rooted in the very life of God, ready to bear much fruit for others. The seminarians, after this stage, have already prayed about their vocation. They are now ready to commit their lives to a life of service after the example of Jesus, the Good Shepherd.

There are four pillars of formation for priesthood – Spiritual, Human, Intellectual, and Pastoral Formation. Each of these pillars are meant to form the seminarians integrally, holistically, that they may own the gift of priestly vocation and live it as missionary disciples sent into the world. In all this, the seminarian is never alone. The whole seminary system guides and accompanies the seminarian in this step-by-step process that he may become the priest that God wants him to be.
